Carrer
In 1978, Gautam Adani moved to Mumbai and worked as a diamond sorter for Mahendra Brothers.
In 1985, for small- scale industries he started importing primary polymers.
In 1988, he established Adani Enterprises (Adani Exports), the company of the Adani Group.
In 1991, he began trading of metals, textiles and agro products as a part of the company’s growth strategy.
In 1995, Adani got the contract for outsourcing of the Mundra Port, which was announced by the government of Gujarat in 1994.
Again in 1995, Adani set up the first jetty, operated by Mundra Port and Special Economic Zone. Later the projects were transferred to Adani Ports & Special Economic Zone (APSEZ). Today Mundra Port is the largest private sector port in India.
In 1996, Adani founded Adani Power, the power business arm of Adani Group. Adani Power holds the largest private thermal power producer of the country that is 4620 MW thermal power plant.
In 2006, Adani started the power generation business. From 2009 to 2012, he acquired Abbot Point Port in Australia and Carmichael coal mine in Queensland.
In May 2020, he won the world’s largest Solar bid worth $6 billion by the Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI).
In September 2020, Adani acquired a 74% stake in Mumbai International Airport.
In February 2022, he became Asia richest person and surpassed Mukesh Ambani.
